Wells Keeps It 100 In Win Over Penn State Berks

The Wells College women's basketball team had its second-highest scoring game in program history and defeated Penn State Berks 100-58 on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Farenthold Athletic Wing of the Schwartz Center.

The Express started the game hot and kept scoring throughout. Wells scored 35 points in the opening quarter, which is the highest single-quarter scoring total by Wells since women's basketball adopted four-quarter timing in the 2015-16 season.

Wells led by 19 after the first quarter and held a 29-point advantage at halftime. The team scored 100 or more points for just the second time in program history.

Ashida Cooper led Wells with 37 points as four players scored in double figures. Shelby Medovich had 18 points, Carley Ryan added 13, and Julia Smith scored 11. It was a career-high scoring day for Smith, who made three 3-pointers.

Wells shot 47.6 from the floor in the game, and made 11-of-18 3-point attempts. Kamarie Maturine led Wells with 13 rebounds.

The Express defense forced 23 turnovers and had 12 steals, with four steals by Cooper, and two each from Medovich, Ryan, and Maturine.

Wells improved to 5-9 overall and stands at 4-5 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Penn State Berks is 4-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

The Express hosts Lancaster Bible College at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29.
