Alfred State Edges Wells Women's Basketball

The Wells College women's basketball team lost 63-59 to Alfred State on Monday, Nov. 27 at the Schwartz Athletic Center in Aurora, N.Y. Carley Ryan had a career-high 30 points for the Express.

Wells jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter and led 14-10 after the opening 10 minutes. Wells held a 28-26 lead at halftime.

Alfred State held Wells to 11 points in the third quarter to take a lead, and held the advantage through the majority of the fourth quarter.

In addition to her 30-point night, Ryan led Wells with seven steals. Kamarie Maturine had 10 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Miranda Mingen had eight points and eight rebounds.

Both teams have 1-3 records through the first four games of the season.

Monday's game was the first of a four-game week for Wells, which continues with a 6 p.m. home game Wednesday, Nov. 29 against Medaille. The Express will play Saturday at Cazenovia and Sunday at home against Elmira.
