Wells Women's Basketball Wins At Cazenovia

The Wells College women's basketball team earned a 50-46 victory over Cazenovia College on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Cazenovia. It was the first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the year for Wells, and the Express is 1-0 in in the NEAC and 2-4 overall. Cazenovia is 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Carley Ryan led Wells with 23 points and Kamarie Maturine had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Wells led 8-6 after the first quarter but Cazenovia rallied back to take a 20-19 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was a difference-maker as Wells outscored Cazenovia 15-7 in the third. Ryan scored nine of her 23 points in the third, and a pair of free throws by Ryan gave Wells its largest lead of the game a 34-25 with 1:52 left in the third.

Cazenovia pulled within one point twice during the fourth quarter, but Wells responded each time, and the Express maintained its lead throughout.

Yanna Ososkalo led Wells with five steals. Miranda Mingen had six rebounds.

Wells is back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. with a home game against Elmira College at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
