Women’s Basketball Team Prepares for Upcoming Conference Play with Highlander Matchup

The Wells College women's basketball team got one more game in before conference play begins this weekend, but fell to visiting Houghton College on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in a non-conference tilt. The Express stayed with the Highlanders in the middle quarters with each ending in a one-score differential, but it was Houghton's hot shooting out of the gate that propelled the Highlanders to a 72-36 victory over Wells.

Houghton shot 75 percent from the floor in the first quarter while scoring 32. Although the Express battled back in the middle quarters, the points Houghton accrued in the first ended up being too many to overcome. The Highlanders were almost as hot at the end of the contest as they were in the beginning with 71 percent accuracy from the floor in the fourth.

Jordan Jacobs led Wells with 15 points, four assists and four steals. Maritza Scharoun also hit double-digits points with 10. Lorissa Parks and Brittany Kropp each added four points apiece with Kropp leading the team in rebounds with six.

The women's basketball team begins conference play next when they host Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday, Dec.7 with a 3 p.m. tipoff.
