Scharoun Records Back-to-Back Double-Doubles

The Wells College women's basketball team was especially strong in the first half in their matchup with visiting Cazenovia College on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The Express traded leads in the opening quarter before settling for a 13-all tie after one. The Wildcats had their best offensive surge in the second quarter with 23 points, but it wasn't enough to pull away from Wells as the Express remained within striking distance at the half thanks to a 15-point second quarter.

Cazenovia carried its momentum into the third, while Wells couldn't find that same rhythm that they had in the first two quarters and the Wildcats captured the contest at 69-37.

Maritza Scharoun and Jordan Jacobs each recorded double-doubles, but for Scharoun it was her second in as many games. The pair co-led the team in points with each scoring 10. Scharoun recorded 14 rebounds to Jacobs' 12.

Lorissa Parks added a half-dozen points, while four points came from both Maeghan Westmiller and Jennifer McCumber. Sonia Rivera came off the bench and added three.

The women's basketball team next hosts SUNY Poly on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a 7 p.m. start.
