Swartele Hired As Assistant Coach for Women's Lacrosse

Shelly Swartele of Auburn, N.Y. was hired in December to serve as Wells College's assistant coach from women's lacrosse. She is working with Head Coach Trina Bandler this spring to lead the women's team.   "Shelly has become a knowledgable and integral part of the team this year. Not only does she fit in well with the team, but she also has a love for coaching that is apparent in everything she does" states Bandler.

"For the past four years, I have been a high school physical education teacher and the head women's varsity lacrosse coach for the Auburn City School District," said Swartele. "I was responsible for the offenses and defenses that we played, goalie preparation, media and public relations, along with summer camps and training. Auburn is a demanding Class A league that involved a lot of time and commitment."

Swartele holds BSF and MS degrees in physical education from SUNY-Cortland. In addition to women's lacrosse, she has past experience coaching women's varsity basketball, women's varsity tennis, girl's junior high soccer, and men's tennis at Tompkins-Cortland Community College. She was an assistant director of intramural sports at SUNY-Cortland, holds a permanent NYS teaching certificate, and is a member of US Lacrosse and the USTA.
