EXPRESS TOP KEUKA

Aurora, N.Y.–  The Wells College women's lacrosse team remained undefeated in North Eastern Athletic Conference play holding on to defeat the Keuka College Storm 14-13 on Wednesday evening in Keuka Park, N.Y. With the victory the Express take over sole possession of first place in the NEAC and improve to 6-6 (5-0 NEAC), while the Storm fell to 5-5 (4-1 NEAC).  

Freshmen Sarah Allen led five Express scorers with six goals. The conference's leading scorer Emily Lotkowictz continued to light up the score sheet adding three goals and three assists. Gabriella Decker added two goals and one assist, Anna Breard scored two, and Madeline Bass rounded out the scoring with one goal and one assist. Stefanie Miller led the team in draw controls with four, while tallying one caused turnover, and one ground ball. Elizabeth Barclay earned her sixth win in net tallying 12 saves.

Despite the loss, the Storm held a small 30-28 edge in shots, while holding the advantage in ground balls 17-12 and draw control 15-13.

In a battle of unbeatens the game lived up to it's billing, featuring 27 goals, six ties, and four lead changes.

The Storm struck first and took an early 3-1 lead on three goals by Brandy Shafer (6 g). Wells fought back as Allen scored an unassisted goal at 12:31 and tallied a goal on a free possession shot at 7:55 to tie the game, 3-3.

Lotkowictz gave the Express their first lead of the game with 1:38 remaining, netting an unassisted goal, as Wells headed into the break up 4-3.

The flood gates opened in the second half as both team combined for 20 goals on 36 shots.

The Express came out firing first, scoring two goals, for a 6-3 lead. The Storm responded going on an 8-3 run to take a 12-9 lead with 13:06 remaining. Wells refused to lie down as Decker, Breard, Allen and Lotkowictz all found the back of cage to take a 13-12 lead with 5:16 to go.

Storm Attack Courtney Potochniak tied the game at 13 on a feed from Brittany Murray with 3:04 remaining but, the Express would get the last shot. Lotkowictz buried a shot on a feed from Decker for the go ahead goal and eventual game winner as the Express held on over the last 2:46 for the victory.  

Wells returns to action on Friday against NEAC foe Morrisville State College at 4:00 p.m. in Morrisville, N.Y.
