DEFENSE LEADS EXPRESS PAST WILSON

(Chambersburg, Pa.)─ The Wells College women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in North Atlantic Conference West Division (NACW) action defeating the Wilson College Phoenix 14-5 on Sunday afternoon in Chambersburg Pa. Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif./Helix) led seven different Express scorers with four goals, while Liz Barclay (Laporte, Pa./Lincoln) earned the win in net with 11 saves. With the victory the Express improve to 4-3 (2-0 NACW), while Phoenix fall to 0-6 (0-2 NACW).
 
Stephanie Motes (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) added three goals, Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) finished with two goals and one assist, Sarah Allen (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North) scored two goals, Anna Breard (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) chipped in with one goal and one assist, while Kweita Holmes (Frederick, Md./Seneca Valley) and Erika Bareiss (Clinton, N.Y./Westmoreland) each tallied a goal to round out the scoring for the Express.
 
Elizabeth Bush and Jamie DeVanie each scored two goals to pace the Phoenix. Charis Brenneman finished with 10 saves in goal for Wilson.
 
The Express held the advantage in shots (35-26), Wilson held the advantage in groundballs (20-14), while both teams finished with 10 draw controls. However, the Express dominated the extra player opportunity finishing with 13 goals on the advantage.
 
Wilson scored the first goal less than a minute into play but the Express responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. The Express continued to their hot shooting with Bass scoring all four of her goals with less than ten minutes to play in the first half, giving Wells a 8-3 lead heading into the break.
 
Wells continued where they left off in the first half, scoring three straight goals to open the second. Wilson scored their first goal of the half midway through but the Express added two more goals, ballooning their lead to 13-4, before finishing with the nine goal victory.


The Express return to action on Tuesday, April 5 against Alfred University at 4 p.m. in Aurora.
