Women’s Lacrosse Posts 20-12 Victory Over Penn St.-Abington

AURORA, N.Y. – Powered by nine points (7-2=9) by senior captain Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.), the Wells College women's lacrosse team posted a 20-12 victory over the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington Monday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. The Express improve to 5-4 overall and to 3-1 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference while the Nittany Lions drop to 0-11 overall and to 0-4 in league play.

The Express led or were tied from start to finish in the game as Bass struck first for an unassisted tally within the game's first 1:43. With the game tied at two aside, Alaina Kelahan (New Woodstock, N.Y.) posted the go-ahead goal with 18:23 remaining in the first half and the Express never looked back.

Cumulatively, Bass tied a career-high mark with nine points, setting a career-high with seven goals. Her previous high in points was nine goals on Mar. 31, 2012 against the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College. Freshman Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) set a career-high mark with three goals and an assist for four points (3-1=4) while juniors Brittany White (Lewiston, N.Y.), Brittany Carpenter (Carthage, N.Y.) and freshman Kaylie Benjamin (Waterloo, N.Y.) each tallied their first collegiate goals in the contest.

Freshman Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) chipped in with a goal and an assist while classmate Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) posted a three-point performance (1-2=3). Sophomore Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) posted two goals for the Express.

Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) made eight saves for the Express to improve her record to 5-4. Sandy Cao drew the loss, making four saves before yielding to Sarah Snyder-Kamen who made six saves in the final stanza.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Apr. 17 as they host the Storm of Keuka College in a 5:30 p.m. contest at the South Athletic Field.
