AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals as the Wells College women's lacrosse team posted a 19-8 victory over the Phoenix of Wilson College on Saturday at the South Athletic Field. Wells has now won two straight games and improves to 2-5 overall on the season and to 2-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Wilson (0-7, 0-5 NEAC) remains winless on the year.

Fargnoli eclipsed her previous career high for goals this afternoon, shattering her old personal record of four (04/02/13 vs. Hilbert) after firing a team-high 10 shots on goal this afternoon. Sophomore Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) registered three goals of her own while freshman Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) reeled in a team-best eight draw controls alongside her four points (2-2=4). Additionally, freshman Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) and sophomore Mao Hata (Kizugawa, Kyoto, Japan) each tallied their first collegiate goals in this afternoon's contest.

Wells took a commanding 5-0 lead through the game's first 5:09 as Fargnoli scored twice during that span. Caileigh Oliver converted a free position attempt at 23:27 and the Express went on another run, scoring four straight goals. In the first half alone, Wells scored 14 goals to capture a decisive 14-3 halftime lead.

Wilson matched Wells' offensive output in the second half, scoring five goals while taking more shots than the Express (12-to-11). At their peak, the Phoenix scored three straight goals from 26:10 to 22:52, using two strikes from Nicole Melanson and Megan Sterling's third goal of the game to cut into their deficit. After Melanson's third goal of the game at 8:24 to cut the score to 17-8, Roberson and Hata each scored to place the game out of reach down the stretch.

Melanson and Sterling each scored three goals for Wilson while Chanteal Cobb and Oliver struck for one goal apiece. Sterling's eight ground balls led the team while her five draw controls did the same.

Wells goaltender Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) allowed seven goals without a save on Saturday and earned her eighth career victory between the pipes. Freshman Brooke Spanbauer (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) played the game's final 12:50, allowing one goal on two shots for the Express. Alexis Ankro allowed 19 goals for Wilson, making six saves for the Phoenix.

Seniors Brittany White (Lewiston, N.Y.), Brittany Carpenter (Carthage, N.Y.) and Dann were each honored in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day for their lengthy contributions to the program during their tenures.

The Express return to action Friday, Apr. 18 as they face-off against the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington in a 6:30 p.m. road contest.
