Women's Lacrosse Drops 12-1 Decision To Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Freshman Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) provided the lone goal for the Wells College women's lacrosse team in their 12-1 loss to the Mavericks of Medaille College on Sunday at All High Stadium. With the loss, Wells dips to 3-10 overall on the year while concluding their North Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-6 record. Medaille improves to 9-6 alongside a 7-2 mark in league play as they have qualified for the NEAC postseason.

Stokes goal, an unassisted strike, came with only 3:03 remaining in regulation time to break up a scoring run of 12 goals for the host Mavericks. Freshman Taylor Brown (Clinton, N.Y.) led the team with three ground balls while junior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) hauled in two of her team's four draw controls.

Medaille was paced by a seven point effort from Emily Brophy. She scored two goals and assisted five of her team's 12 goals in the win. Amanda Ruszczyk reeled in five ground balls while also hauling in four draw controls, equaling the cumulative output by the Express. Emily Victor scored five times while Denay O'Connor posted four goals and two assists to bolster the Medaille offense.

Goaltender Brooke Spanbauer (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) allowed 12 goals on 15 total shots to draw the loss. Mia Wagner allowed only one goal on the day for the Mavericks, turning aside seven shots faced in the complete game victory.

The Express conclude their season this Tuesday, Apr. 29 as they host Houghton College at 5:00 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
