Fargnoli Reaches 100 Career Points In Win vs. Hilbert

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) became only the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career points as the Wells College women's lacrosse team powered their way to a 13-8 victory over visiting Hilbert College on Wednesday. With the non-conference victory, Wells moves to 3-8 overall on the year while Hilbert drops to 0-11.

Fargnoli scored four goals and an assist for a team-leading five total points on offense, completing the game with 101 career points via 82 goals and 19 assists. She is the first player to reach the century mark in points since Madeline Bass '13 did so during the 2012 women's lacrosse season. With today's performance, she also set a career-high mark with 30 points in one season (24-6=30).

Wednesday's game was also noteworthy for having the second-most ground balls (36) and the fifth-most shots by Wells in any game since the start of the 2009 season. With 23 caused turnovers in the game this afternoon, the Express posted their second-most in one game since the aforementioned 2009 season.

Sophomore Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) struck for three goals of her own while junior Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) racked up two goals and an assist. Junior Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) potted two goals while junior Alaina Kelahan (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and classmate Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) each scored once.

Wells opened up a 5-0 lead through the game's first 12:49 as Stokes scored twice after Roberson and Kelahan put the Express on the scoreboard. Despite two quick goals by Hilbert within 37 seconds, Gould scored her second goal of the game at the 10 minute mark to lift her team to the 6-2 advantage. In the final 2:12 of the opening half, Wells scored three goals to carry a 9-4 lead into halftime.

Hilbert turned up the heat offensively, scoring four-straight goals near the midpoint of the frame, but back-to-back goals by Fargnoli and Jordan increased Wells' lead to 13-8. Fargnoli's unassisted goal with 4:38 remaining in regulation time placed her exactly at 100 career points.

The visiting Hawks were led by Megan Smith's five goals. Chantelle Mikolajcz scored twice for Hilbert and Kelly Mandell rounded out the scoring for the Hawks. Cumulatively, Hilbert committed 38 turnovers on the afternoon and lost the ground ball battle to Wells, 36-to-30.

Wells returns to action this Friday, Apr. 24 as they face-off against Cazenovia in a key North Eastern Athletic Conference battle at 4 p.m. on the road. The Express will host Bryn Athyn on Saturday, Apr. 25 at 1 p.m. and will honor Fargnoli, the team's lone graduating senior student-athlete, with a pre-game ceremony at the South Athletic Field.
