Maloney Earns NEAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Freshman Mackenzie Maloney (Huntington Station, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's lacrosse team earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Maloney and the Express racked up a 2-1 record in three games this past week.

Maloney won her first career Player of the Week award after striking for 13 goals and three assists for 16 points (13-3=16) in her last three games, securing 12 draw controls while leading the Express with 10 ground balls.

With 50 goals on the season entering Saturday's season finale against Keuka at 3 p.m., Maloney remains only six points away from tying Sarah Allen '13 and her first-year scoring record of 64 points (57-7=64). Her 58 points scored on offense (50-8=58) is the eighth-best single season in program history.

She currently ranks fifth in the conference in overall point scoring (57) and conference-only point scoring (34). Her 50 overall goals ranks her second overall among NEAC women's lacrosse players and her 30 goals against league foes is ranked second as well.

Against Penn St.-Abington on Saturday, Maloney scored six goals and three assists for nine points (6-3=9) while collecting a team-leading six ground balls. She started the game off by scoring six of her team's first seven goals, sparking the Express to victory with her strong early performance.

Versus Bryn Athyn on Sunday, Maloney racked up five goals and posted five draw controls in a come-from-behind win. With her team down by a 12-10 margin with only 17:47 left in regulation time, Maloney scored three-straight goals to not only tie the game, but put Wells ahead for good in the game.

She began the week with two goals and a team-leading four draw controls against Cazenovia, tying for the team lead with two caused turnovers against the Wildcats.
