Offense Explodes in Women's Lacrosse Win

The Wells College women's lacrosse team used a prolific offense to overwhelm D'Youville College by a 22-6 score in a game played Saturday, March 25 at D'Youville.

Wells led 5-1 after the opening five minutes, 14-4 at halftime, and went on to the 16-goal victory. Mackenzie Maloney scored 10 goals for Wells, a career-best total for her, and two shy of the program's single-game player record of 12 goals set in 2009 by Emily Lotkowictz.

Maloney scored the first two goals in the game's first 1:03 Julia Smith and Savanah Connors added goals 40 seconds apart and Maloney scored two more to give Wells a 6-1 lead.

In total, Maloney had 10 goals and one assist. Renee Bartosz, Savanah Connors, and Jessica Burbank scored three goals each. Smith scored twice and had a game-high three assists. Miranda Mingen also scored for Wells.

Julia Smith led Wells with five caused turnovers and six ground balls.

Goalkeeper Anna Bozeat made 10 saves and earned the victory in goal.

The Express converted 3-of-5 free-position shots and held a 33-20 advantage in total shots in the game. Wells won 18 draw controls to D'Youville's 12.

Wells has a 1-2 overall record and D'Youville is 0-4. Wells returns to action Friday, March 31 with a road game at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. That is also the first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the year for Wells.
