Women's Lacrosse Falls In OT Against Keuka

The Wells College women's lacrosse team played to an extra session for the second game in a row and came up on the wrong side of a 13-12 score against visiting Keuka College on Tuesday, April 18 at the Wells Turf Field in Aurora, N.Y.

The visiting Wolves won the opening draw of the overtime period and scored 40 seconds into the overtime to claim a one-goal victory.

Keuka is 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the NEAC. Wells is 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the NEAC.

Keuka built a 6-2 lead in the first half but Wells rallied back to tie the score 6-6 on three goals from Julia Smith and one from Renee Bartosz. Keuka led 8-6 at halftime and scored two minutes into the second half to take a 9-6 lead.

Wells scored six of the next seven goals throughout the second half Jessica Burbank scored three, Mackenzie Maloney scored two and Bartosz added her second of the game in the surge for Wells.

Keuka scored with 7:51 left to reduce Wells' lead to 12-11, and then the Wolves tied the game with 5:06 left in the half.

Each team had possessions and chances in the closing minutes of the second half but didn't convert a go-ahead goal. Vanessa Tsarevich scored the game-winner in overtime on an assist from Vera Freda for Keuka.

Wells goalkeeper Anna Bozeat made seven saves. Savanna Yerdon had three caused turnovers and two ground balls for the Express defense.

Smith scored four goals in the game, Burbank and Maloney had three goals, and Bartosz scored twice.

The Express are back in action Saturday, April 22 at home against Hilbert College at 2 p.m.
