Thomas Heats Up vs Panthers, Express Remain Unbeaten

The Wells College Women's Lacrosse team faced a tough challenge on Monday, as they looked to sustain their unblemished 2024 record against a tough SUNY Purchase squad. Despite taking on their second opponent in a little over 24 hours, Lydia Thomas and the Express women were up to the challenge, as they stormed to a 13-4 victory over the Purchase Panthers to secure their second victory in as many days.

Thomas was spectacular for the Express, netting 5 goals and adding 1 assist. An all-conference player just a year ago, the spectacular senior brought the intensity early in Monday's match, scoring the first 3 goals of the game.

Thomas wasn't the only Wells player that found a groove though, as first year stud Logan Lomonaco also added to her outstanding early-year success, scoring 3 goals and also adding 1 assist in the win. Lomonaco, the newly-minted AMCC Offensive Player of the Week, boosted her total goal count to 13 through 4 games, good for 2nd in the whole conference.

Both Lomonaco and Thomas are tied for the best distributing marks in the AMCC, with each having 7 assists.

The Express are all over the goal-scoring charts in the conference, with 4 players in the top 5 for goals scored.

One of those standout scorers is first year Jade Epp, who found the cage 2 times in Monday's action, shooting her total up to 13 goals, tied with fellow first year Lomonaco for 2nd in the AMCC.

Joining Thomas, Lomonaco, and Epp in the scoring standings is senior Julia Barnwell who also added 1 goal on the day, bringing her total to 10.

The Express were also dominant in many other categories other than just scoring in the victory over the Panthers. They controlled the ground ball game for the entirety of the match, securing 42 ground balls during the 60 minute contest.

Hannah Lamont, another talented first year, was all over the field, capturing 10 ground balls to lead the Wells College women. Fellow first year Mariah Stephens also got it done on that end, grabbing 9 ground balls.

Shooting was plentiful for the Express on Monday, as they fired over 45 shots, out-shooting Purchase 46-6. The monopoly on possession allowed Wells to pull away and move to 4-0 on the season.

Express Women's Lacrosse will face yet another tough challenge in their quest to remain undefeated when they travel even farther south to take on East Mennonite down in Virginia. That game is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Thursday. You can stream the matchup by following the links on our website!
