Women's Soccer Wins Season Opener

Aurora, New York – Freshmen Rachel Mattraw (Chaumont) had a goal and an assist, and senior Amanda  Heterbring (Java Center) added a goal of her own as the Wells College Women's Soccer Team (1-0-0) rolled over Morrisville State College (0-1-0) 3-1 on Saturday at Wells. Junior Elizabeth Fish (West Winfield) scored the lone goal for Morrisville.

Morrisville got the scoring started early when Fish scored on a cross from sophomore Caitlyn Campbell (Westmoreland) 16-minutes into the game. That would end up being the only goal for Morrisville as the Wells defense held down Morrisville allowing just two shots on goal.

With the game tied at one in the second-half, freshmen Juli Vibbard (Burlington Falls) scored on a scramble in front of Morrisville junior goalie Katie Tiffany to give Wells a 2-1 lead. Wells never looked back as Heterbring added an unassisted goal at 61:27, on an incredible shot from 20-yards out, to finish off the game.

"It's always good to get the first win out of the way, but we still have a lot to improve on," said head coach and Wells Athletic Director Jamey Ventura.

Well's will play next on Sunday, August 31 at SUNY-Potsdam at 5:00 p.m. in Potsdam.
