WELLS WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON OPENER

(Aurora, N.Y.)─Emily Schilling (Holland, N.Y./Holland) and Alyssa Hulbert (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) each scored and Mary Zinni (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) finished with four saves as the Hilbert College Hawks (1-0) shutout the Wells College Express women's soccer team (0-1) 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. Junior Megan Lawrence (Scipio Center, N.Y./Cayuga Community College) suffered the loss in net for the Express finishing with nine saves.  

The two teams played scoreless through the first 38 minutes until Schilling found the back of the net on a pass from Sarah Schmidt (Rochester, N.Y./Rochester) to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead heading into the break. The Hawks extended their just three minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal by Hulbert as the Hawks cruised to victory. Hilbert controlled the majority of the game holding the advantage in shots 21-4 and corners 11-2.  

The Express return to action next on Tuesday, September 7 against SUNY Potsdam at 6:00 p.m. in Potsdam.
