LATE GOAL SINKS EXPRESS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers scored with less than ten minutes remaining, snapping a 1-1 deadlock, en route to a 2-1 victory over the Wells College Express in North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon in Aurora. Sherilyn Thomas (Tioga Center, N.Y./Tioga) and Andrea Lisk (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis) each scored to lead the Fighting Tigers. Hilary Setford (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) scored on an assist from Kendra Francis (Hooper, Utah, Fremont) to lead the Express. With the loss the Express finish the season 4-13-1 (4-7 NEAC), while the Fighting Tigers finish their season at 7-10-1 (5-6 NEAC).

The Express controlled the majority of the first half firing five shots on net to the Fighting Tigers two. Despite the numerous scoring chances, the Express were unable to find the back of the net as the game entered halftime tied 0-0.

Cobleskill broke the scoreless tie early in the second half; Lisk broke in down the left side of the field and tucked a low shot to near post just underneath a sprawling Megan Lawrence (Scipio Center, N.Y./Cayuga C.C.) for a 1-0 Fighting Tiger lead.

The Express continued to battle and would knot the game up at 1-1 in the 73rd minute. Setford received a pass from Francis at the top of the 18 and sent a shot over the outstretched hands of Cobleskill goaltender Katelyn Benjamin (Phoenicia, N.Y./Onteora) for the game tying score.

Cobleskill would take the lead for good with less than ten minutes remaining. Kristen Raina (Granby, Mass./Granby) would send a slow roller towards the Express goal but an inopportune bounce put the ball on the foot of a wide open Thomas, who buried the go ahead and eventual game winning goal with 9:12 to play in the game.

Lawrence finished with eight saves on the game for the Express, while Benjamin tallied seven saves for the Fighting Tigers.
