BLANFORD’S HAT TRICK PROPELS WELLS PAST CAZENOVIA

AURORA, N.Y. – Freshmen Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) tallied her first collegiate hat trick finishing with three goals as the Wells College women's soccer team (7-10, 5-6 NEAC) blanked the visiting Cazenovia College Wildcats 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Aurora. Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) added one goal and one assist, while Cassie Smythe (Eden, N.Y.) finished with four saves in the victory for Wells. Wildcats' goalie Vicki Dufort (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) finished with five saves in the loss.

Blanford put the Express up less than three minutes into play on a pass from Stone and would later tally an unassisted goal in the 25th minute to give Wells a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Blanford completed the hat trick in the 58th minute, scoring off a pass from Rachel Mattraw (Chaumont, N.Y.), as the Express took a commanding 3-0 lead. Stone finished off the four goal rout of the Wildcats (5-11-2, 5-4-2 NEAC) scoring an unassisted goal at 71:55 as the Express cruised to their third straight victory.

Wells held the advantage in shots 17-7 and corner kicks 11-2.

The Express close out their season on Saturday when the travel to take on NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m.
