Blanford Scores Third Goal Of Season In 4-1 Express Loss

AURORA, N.Y. – Sophomore Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored her third goal of the season in the waning seconds, but the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 4-1 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-3 overall on the season and drop their third consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference match. Penn State Abington improves to 3-2 on the year while the Express fall to 1-3 (0-2 NEAC) on the season.

The Nittany Lions struck three separate times in the first 13:11 of the contest as Desirae Holmes potted two goals prior to Cindy Wade's breakaway goal in the 13th minute. Menel Tlili added the game's second unassisted goal in the 67th minute to increase the Nittany Lions lead to 4-0.

Blanford's goal came with only 1:06 remaining in regulation time. Senior captain Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) sent a ball up the middle that connected with the foot of Blanford near the top of the box. Beating the two lone backs, Blanford tucked the ball behind Nittany Lions backstop Gabrielle Benedict for the first Express goal of the contest.

Express goaltender Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) drew her third loss of the season, turning aside 6-of-10 shots on goal that she faced. Benedict (3-2) collected her third winning decision of the year, halting 5-of-6 Express shots on net.
