Roser Halts 21; Express Silenced By Saxons 2-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Express goaltender Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) made 21 saves for the Express, but the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout loss to the Saxons of Alfred University Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 2-9 overall on the season following the non-conference contest. The Saxons improve their record to 6-4 on the year.

Roser's 21 stops are tied for the second most saves made by an Express goaltender dating back to the start of the 2008 season. On Oct. 23, 2009, netminder Savanna Duh made 23 saves against the Saxons while Roser tied Claire Peterson's mark of 21 saves against SUNY Cobleskill on Nov. 8, 2008. Dating back to the 2008 season, Roser holds four of the top 10 save totals across that timeframe.

Following a scoreless first stanza, Rachel Williams struck for the game's first goal at 62:45 of the second half. Within a goal crease scrum, Williams was able to touch the ball past Roser for the strike. Mary Hendee scored her team's second goal at 78:39 of the second half, evading the Wells defense and beating Roser to her left for the goal.

Roser allowed only two goals on 23 shots on net, while Sanjo Scheer and Ashley Frazell split time in net for the Saxons, stopping all six shots on goal that they faced.

Alfred out-shot the Express by a cumulative 31-to-11 margin.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 6 as they face-off against SUNYIT in a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
