Kangaroos Kick Past Women's Soccer, 6-1

CANTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored her fourth career goal in the first half, but the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 6-1 defeat to the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton Sunday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Express remain winless on the season while the Kangaroos improve to 2-0 in the season's early goings.

Despite allowing a goal only 25 seconds into the game, the Express answered with Hiltbrand's unassisted goal in the 14th minute. However, the Kangaroos rattled off five additional goals to place any chance of a Wells comeback out of reach. After Hiltbrand's converted shot on goal, freshman Savannah Scott (Albuquerque, N. Mex.) added a shot on goal later in the contest to account for the other offensive opportunity for Wells.

On the afternoon, SUNY Canton out-shot the Express 25-to-2 while also holding the decisive 8-to-0 advantage on corner kicks. Franchesca Trombley and Katlyn Hart each had five shots, with Hart adding two goals and Trombley adding one. Karley Cree, Jade Sayward and Nikki Holmes added the other goals for the host Kangaroos.

Express netminder Kylie Nishioka (Encinitas, Calif.) allowed six goals on 17 shots that she faced while Kangaroos goalkeeper Brittany Rotach allowed one goal on two shots on net.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Sept. 7 as they host the Mustangs of Morrisville State College in a 2:00 p.m. contest at the North Athletic Field.
