Freshmen Shine In 6-2 Women’s Soccer Loss To Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – Three first year players recorded their first collegiate points as the Wells College women's soccer team lost to the Giants of Keystone College 6-2 on Sunday. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-1 on the young season while Keystone (1-1) earned its first-ever program victory on their newly-installed turf playing surface.

Down by a 1-0 margin early in the contest, freshman Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) picked up her first collegiate goal at 28:30 after heading home a high service from classmate Kaylee Schworm (Edmeston, N.Y.). Later in the game, freshman Sarah Halstead (Fulton, N.Y.) tapped home a pass from Ososkalo to net her first career goal to halve the Keystone advantage, 4-2.

Keystone struck early with a goal by Cassie Ehrhart in the opening four minutes. Despite Ososkalo's equalizer in the 28th minute, Olivia Kashuba cashed in with a breakaway goal just under two minutes after the game-tying strike by Wells. Erhhart took advantage of the moist conditions in the 34th minute, scoring off of a long-range shot that was not held onto by Wells.

Exiting the locker room at halftime with a 3-1 lead, Keystone's Jenna Moranski headed home an Ehrhart corner kick to increase the hosts lead. Halstead's goal came in the 76th minute, but Rashelly Cruz scored twice off the bench in a span of 3:12 to establish the final score of 6-2. Cumulatively, the Giants outshot the Express by a 21-to-11 margin and held the decisive advantage in corner kicks, 9-to-5.

Wells backstop Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.), in her first collegiate game, made nine saves in the loss. Katelyn Coon started between the pipes for Keystone before yielding to Sarah Heintz. Both keepers allowed one goal on four shots as Coon secured the win.

The Express host Keuka College on Saturday, Sept. 6 at high noon in the North Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
