Women's Soccer Edged By SUNYIT, 2-1

MARCY, N.Y. – Despite a game-tying goal from junior Karley Raczynski (Fonda, N.Y.), the Wells College women's soccer team allowed a second half goal to the Wildcats from the SUNY Institute of Technology, dropping a 2-1 contest on Saturday. With the loss, Wells dips to 4-5 overall and to 4-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The win boosts the Wildcats to 4-5-1 and to 4-1 in league play.

Kristina Strang scored the game's first goal at 31:35 after a pass by Julia Jaikin at the top of the goal crease, placing SUNYIT up by a 1-0 margin. Raczynski forced home a feed from senior Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) at 42:53, tying the game and placing Blanford only one point shy of tying the program record for modern-era career point scoring.

Corrina Marconi, however, scored the game-winning goal after an Alexis Forgit shot was halted by Wells backstop Abbigail Kime (Geneva, N.Y.). The ensuing rebound spilled out to Marconi who found the back of the net for the goal. The Express have not defeated SUNYIT dating back to a 1-0 road victory on Oct. 4, 2008, a streak of six defeats.

Kime posted the loss, allowing two goals on 10 shots faced while making eight saves through 70 minutes. Freshman Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) made two saves in about 20 minutes of relief action. SUNYIT keeper Angela Bartlett allowed a goal on the lone shot that she faced.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Oct. 4 as they face-off against the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill at 1 p.m. on the road.
