Nittany Lions Race Past Women’s Soccer, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's soccer team posted a 5-0 home loss on Sunday to the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington. With the loss, Wells drops to 5-8 overall and to 5-4 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The win boosts the Nittany Lions to 10-4 overall and to 9-1 within league play.

Wells came out strong against the Nittany Lions, firing off four shots in the first 10 minutes alone. However, the Nittany Lions took advantage of a Wells handball in their own goalmouth to set Victoria Parker up for a penalty shot goal at 17:53. Penn St.-Abington picked up their second goal after Kayla Nolan rang the post with a shot. The ensuing rebound spilled out to Jennifer Cifuentes, who hammered home the rebound to give her team a 2-0 lead at 19:48.

Nolan's shot near the top of the box with only four seconds left in the first half elevated the visitors to a 3-0 lead while Megan Murphy's unassisted strike opened the second half scoring for Penn St.-Abington. A Jill Osborn goal at 87:56 added insurance, lifting the Nittany Lions to a 5-0 lead down the stretch.

Wells goalkeeper Abbigail Kime (Geneva, N.Y.) allowed both Nittany Lions goals before yielding to freshman Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) who halted four-of-seven shots on net. Penn St.-Abington's Margaret Sheridan earned the shutout, making three saves while the defensive corps contributed with a team save in the win.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 18 as they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. for a 1 p.m. contest against the host Wildcats of Cazenovia College.
