AURORA, N.Y. – Seniors Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Charlee Weidman (New Berlin, N.Y.) were honored for their contributions to the Wells College women's soccer program prior to their team's 7-0 loss to the North Eastern Athletic Conference-leading Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Berks on Saturday.

Wells (5-11, 5-7 NEAC) improved upon the season prior with five overall wins in their 35th varsity season in Aurora while Penn St.-Berks (16-2, 12-0 NEAC), the reigning league champions, will enter the upcoming NEAC postseason as the No. 1 seed.

Chrissy Smith registered a hat trick for the Nittany Lions within the game's first 16:24. Bolstered by a 3-0 lead, Penn St.-Berks elected to utilize their goalkeeper, Savannah Cramer, on a penalty kick that she successfully converted at 39:33. In the second half of play, Ellie McKinstry, Jen Kessler and Lizzie Mummau each scored goals for the Nittany Lions to build a 7-0 lead through just over 81 minutes of play.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) made a career-high 10 saves on Saturday. The goalkeeping tandem of Cramer and Zoe Fletcher combined for two saves. Cumulatively, Wells was outshot by a 38-to-6 margin. The visitors also held the decisive 14-to-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Blanford wrapped up her career in a Wells uniform on Saturday with the second-most offensive points scored dating back to 1986, the year that the Express joined the NCAA. She is tied for first place all-time with 72 career games played. Her 72 starts rank her first amongst players dating back to 1980 and her 30 goals scored place her second in the modern era. Her 21 assists place her first all-time since 1986.

Weidman concludes her three-year career with the program having played in 25-straight games dating back to the first match of the 2013 season. A stalwart on defense for the Express, she has logged the most minutes of any player and has started all 53 games of her career.
