Women's Soccer Loses OT Heartbreaker at Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. – Taking on the third-ranked team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, the Wells College women's soccer rallied to tie the game in the second half before falling in overtime to the Chargers from Lancaster Bible College by a 3-2 score. Wells falls to 1-6 after losing their first NEAC contest of the year while Lancaster Bible moves to 2-3 (1-0 NEAC).

Freshman Carley Ryan (Middleburgh, N.Y.) dramatically tied the game at two with just over 15 minutes remaining in the second half. Senior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) lofted a long corner kick from the right side that caught the foot of a crashing Ryan for her first collegiate goal. Ryan's equalizer ultimately sent the game to overtime.

The game-winning overtime goal came with only 57 seconds emaining in the second half. Granted back-to-back corners after Wells was forced the clear the ball behind its own end line, Lancaster Bible sent in a corner kick that appeared to be knocked down in front of the goalmouth. A crashing Brooke Cullum scored her second goal of the season by tapping home a loose ball near the upended Wells goalkeeper, Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.).

Wells had the early lead in the game as sophomore Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) put back a deflection for the 1-0 lead at 18:43. The host Chargers, however, had back-to-back goals scored at 23:04 and 48:02, respectively, by Kirsten Webster and Alyssa Wesner to jump out in front by a 2-1 margin.

Doubet made seven saves on 10 shots, drawing her sixth loss of the season. Kaitlyn Scheuing earned the win, despite allowing two goals on only five shots. Wells was outshot by a 15-to-11 margin in a rough, physical game that saw 12 fouls called on the Chargers opposed to only three against the Express.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 19 as they face-off against Penn St.-Berks in a 3 p.m. game on the road.
