Women's Soccer On Winning End Of 9-4 Bout

AURORA, N.Y. – With 13 combined goals scored by both teams, the Wells College women's soccer team came out on the winning end of Wednesday's shootout with a 9-4 victory over Morrisville State College. The Express move to 5-10 overall on the year and to 4-4 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Mustangs drop to 3-9 overall and to 2-6 within league play.

Wells was led by freshman Jordan Lidell (Pitcher, N.Y.), who scored an impressive three goals with one assist off the bench. Freshman Mackenzie Maloney (Huntington Station, N.Y.) added two goals and an assist of her own while sophomore Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) tallied a goal and two assists for the Express. Freshmen Tayler Nichols (Gilbertsville, N.Y.) and Carley Ryan (Middleburgh, N.Y.) scored one goal apiece, joining senior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) with one strike on the afternoon.

Maloney scored two goals off Ososkalo passes in the first 7:27 of the contest with a Morrisville State goal from Kelly Brennan sandwiched in between. Wells saw Nichols score her first collegiate goal at 9:14 before Hiltbrand's unassisted goal at 16:31 put the Express up by a 4-1 margin. Ososkalo put back a pass from Lidell to add to the advantage before the Mustangs' Jasmine Wynter eluded a Wells defender to cut the score to 5-2.

Lidell, however, gave the Express momentum heading into halftime with her first goal of the afternoon at 37:34 to put her team ahead 6-2. In the second half, Ryan led off with a goal at 49:38 before Lidell scored two of the game's next three goals to give Wells a 9-3 lead. Wynter put back her second marker of the game with 4:11 remaining in regulation time to round out the scoring.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) made one save on the afternoon before yielding to Kayleigh Hurley (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) who stopped 1-of-2 shots down the stretch. Kallie George earned the loss for the Mustangs, allowing nine goals on 14 total shots faced.

The Express play three of their next four contests in Aurora, first taking on the Wildcats from the SUNY Polytechnic Institute this Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2:15 p.m.
