Second Half Strikes Secure 5-1 Women's Soccer Victory

AURORA, N.Y. – Sophomore Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) became the 10th player in team history to score double-digit goals on the season in the Wells College women's soccer team's 5-1 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday. Wells moves to 6-11 overall on the season and to 5-5 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Fighting Tigers drop to 1-12 overall and to 1-7 within the league.

Ososkalo led the way with two goals for the Express, her 10th and 11th strikes of the season, to become the first Wells player since teammate Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored 10 goals in 2014. Her 26 points of offense via 11 goals and four assists (11-4=26) is the 11th-most in a single season for the Express.

Freshman Jordan Lidell (Pitcher, N.Y.) cashed in only 2:49 into regulation time, shooting a ball that kicked off the hands of the SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper to give Wells what proved to be a brief lead. Only 14 seconds later, Morganne Dick put back the equalizer for the Fighting Tigers at 3:03. Both teams would not score for the remainder of the stanza, despite an overwhelming Wells edge in shots (20-to-2).

The Express, however, came out of the half with Ososkalo's first goal of the game only 1:18 into the period after she forced home a pass from Lidell. Only 2:01 later, freshman Mackenzie Maloney (Huntington Station, N.Y.) scored her eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick to put Wells up by a 3-1 margin. Ososkalo was set up by freshman Carley Ryan (Middleburgh, N.Y.) at 56:10 for Wells' fourth goal prior to Ryan scoring a goal of her own in the final five minutes of action.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) made one save on two shots to earn the victory. Doubet yielded to freshman Kayleigh Hurley (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) in the game's final 16:03. SUNY Cobleskill's Sabrina Adams turned aside 11-of-16 shots faced.

The Express return to action Sunday, Oct. 25 as they face-off against Penn St.-Abington on the road at 2 p.m.
