Huge Second Half Leads To Women's Soccer Win

The Wells College women's soccer team won its second straight game and kept up its offensive output with five second-half goals in a 5-1 win at Cedar Crest on Sunday, Sept. 4. Wells is 2-0-0 on the year and Cedar Crest is 1-1-0. The Express returns to action Wednesday at home against Hartwick at 5:45 p.m.

The host Falcons scored the only goal of the first half to take the lead.

The Express rallied for the victory over the game's final 45 minutes. The offensive surge included a run of three goals in a span of five minutes that turned the 1-0 deficit into a two-goal lead. Emma Booth opened the scoring for Wells in the 60th minute, and then assisted on a goal by Amber Welsh to give the Express its first lead. Erin Persons scored in the 65th minute to cap the scoring spree.

Insurance goals came late in the contest, as Madison Beriman and Emma Booth scored just 45 seconds apart with around six minutes remaining. Booth has scored twice in both Wells games this year.

Wells goalkeeper Kayleigh Hurley made two saves and earned her second win of the season. Karlie Maloney entered the game in goal in the final minutes.

Wells held a 24-6 advantage in shots, including a 16-3 margin in the second half. The Express had six corner kicks, and Cedar Crest took none.
