Jones Scores Late-Game Winner For Women's Soccer

The Wells College women's soccer team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 1-0 victory at Gallaudet University on Sunday, Oct. 22. Sammie Jones scored the game-winning goal for Wells with 4:28 remaining in the second half.

Wells improved to 6-9-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Gallaudet is 7-7-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the NEAC.

It was the first-career goal for Jones, as she lifted a shot into the upper-right corner of the net on an assist from Madison Maloney. The breakthrough goal for Wells came after the Express built a 16-2 shots advantage in the first half and outshot Gallaudet 13-5 in the second half.

Wells had nine corner kicks to just one for Gallaudet.

Express goalkeeper Quinn Doubet made four saves.

The Wells women's soccer team faces two NEAC North Division opponents this week to close the regular season. Wednesday's game at Keuka College is at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m., SUNY Poly visits Wells. It will be Senior Day for the Express. Wells enters the week in fifth place in the NEAC North Division. The top four teams in the division qualify for the NEAC playoffs.
