SUNY Poly Rallies Past Wells Women's Soccer

The Wells College women's soccer team scored the opening goal of the match for the third straight game but was eventually overcome by SUNY Poly 6-1 on Saturday, Sept. 15 on the road. Wells has scored first in four of its five matches this year.

The Express is 1-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. SUNY Poly is 1-2-1 with a 1-0-0 NEAC record.

Wells opened the scoring in the 29th minute with an unassisted goal by Mackenzie Maloney who dribbled past a defender and shot into the lower right side of the net. It was the fourth goal of the year for Maloney.

SUNY Poly tied the score just 14 seconds later and scored a go-ahead goal within the ensuing five minutes. The Wildcats led 2-1 at halftime.

SUNY Poly added four second-half goals.

Wells goalkeeper Alexis Huff played the first half in her first collegiate start. Alexis Sterio played the second half and made one save.

Wells is back in action Sunday, Sept. 16 at Cedar Crest College at 4 p.m.
