The Wells College women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the game's final minutes before dropping to visiting SUNY Poly by a 5-2 score on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Territorially, the teams spent about the same amount of time in each other's end with the Wildcats taking a 2-0 lead into the break. Poly would increase its lead by three more in the second half until the Express mounted its biggest assault in the game's final minutes.
In the 84th minute, Abby Smith scored on her own rebound after breaking through with a one-on-one with the Wildcats' goalkeeper. A little more than five minutes later, Mackenzie Powers literally powered her way through to the net with a blast from the left side after taking a feed from Erin Persons.
Wells posted season highs in both shot attempts with 11 and shots on net with nine offensively, while defensively Jennifer McCumber recorded her sixth-consecutive contest with 16 saves or better for the Express.
The women's soccer team next travels to Cobleskill State next weekend with a Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.
