Women’s Swimming Sweeps Alfred State, 81-3

AURORA, N.Y. – After finishing in first place in all of the day's events, the Wells College women's swimming team posted an 81-3 victory over the Pioneers of Alfred State College Wednesday afternoon at the Wells College Aquatic Center. In head-to-head meets, the Express improve to 6-2 overall on the season. The Express need only one victory as a team to tie the all-time program mark of seven victories, set during the 1981-82 women's swimming season.

The Express swam unopposed in the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay, posting a time of 2:22.82 utilizing the foursome of sophomore Hallie Hanson (Ashville, N.Y.), junior Molly Heslin (Coxsackie, N.Y.), freshman Melanie Canales (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Hayley Bloom (New Brunswick, N.J.). In similar fashion, freshman Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.) and classmate Stephanie Todd (Norwich, N.Y.) swam unopposed in the Women's 1650 Yard Freestyle and posted times of 21:14.87 and 21:52.92, respectively.

Both Daniels and Todd were able to crack the Women's 1650 Yard Freestyle leaderboards, with Daniels' time ranking her seventh all-time while Todd's time ranks her 10th. The most recent addition to the top 10 list was the third place time (20:07.11) set by Liz Young '06 on Feb. 18, 2006.

In the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle, freshman Olive Touron (Cato, N.Y.) and junior Britta Kilbourn (Scotia, N.Y.) posted times of 2:20.82 and 2:33.87, respectively, to place first and second. In the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle, freshman Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.) claimed first place with a time of 26.65 seconds to earn five points. Her time ranks her third all-time in program history, trailing Gabby Spencer (26.35, 11/18/2010) and Tracy Conrad '91 (26.62, 11/11/1990).

Freshman Meghan Terry (Delmar, N.Y.) swam unopposed in the Women's 400 Yard Individual Medley, posting a time of 5:54.89 while senior captain Gwenn Lillie (Potsdam, N.Y.) raced alone in the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly, earning five points with a time of 1:29.49. Daniels claimed first place in the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:04.90. Feudale also participated in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke and contributed a time of 1:07.70 – this time ranks her third all-time in program history.

With a time of 6:16.18 in the Women's 500 Yard Freestyle, Touron secured a first place finish in the event. Terry finished just more than six seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:22.86 while the foursome of Touron, Kilbourn, Feudale and Terry completed the day with a first place time (4:20.98) in the Women's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
