Schwend Earns NEAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Freshman Kaitlyn Schwend (San Marcos, Calif.) was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance with the Wells College women's swimming program this past week, the league office announced Tuesday. Schwend and the Express picked up head-to-head wins against NEAC-rival Gallaudet and Alfred State on Saturday.

Schwend registered four first-place finishes against Gallaudet, Alfred State and the hosts from SUNY Cobleskill. She won three individual events on the day, beginning with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:33.91, which was the third-fastest time in program history and the first time a Wells swimmer has cracked the program's top-10 fastest times since the 2009 season.

She also turned in first-place times in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:37.42 and the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 5:33.42. She was also a part of Wells' 200 Yard Medley team that took first place out of six teams with a time of 2:08.72 to close the day.

Through the first two months of her collegiate career, Schwend has recorded the third-fastest times in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:07.04) and the 200 Yard Butterfly. Her 400 Yard Individual Medley time is the eighth-quickest in program history dating back to the team's inception in 1975.

By winning the conference's weekly award this week, Schwend is the first Wells swimmer to be selected dating back to January 2014.
