GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Wells College women's swimming team was voted to finish third in the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Preseason Poll, announced early Thursday afternoon. The final rankings were determined following a poll of the league's five head coaches.

Wells picked up 14 total votes, tying with Cedar Crest for third place. Following a tiebreaker, however, the Express picked up sole possession of third place after receiving two second-place votes.

Last season, Wells competed in its 40th season as a varsity program looking to extend its NEAC Championship winning streak to four seasons. The impressive stretch of championship titles, however, came to an end but not without standout performances from several members of the team en route to a fourth place finish in 2015.

The Express finished in fourth place out of six teams at the NEAC Championship earlier this year. In total, Wells swimmers posted 15 career-best times and recorded 11 new times that rank within the top-10 in team history. Express swimmers finished in third place or better 12 different times, picking up as many NEAC All-Conference awards with podium finishes.

Despite not setting any team records at the NEAC Championship meet, then-freshman Kaitlyn Schwend (San Marcos, Calif.) came the closest after placing second out of 11 swimmers in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:03.87). The first-year swimmer was only .12 seconds away from beating Jennifer Ingold's program record of 1:03.76, set originally on Feb. 20, 1992 at the New York State Championships.

The Express open up their season on Saturday, Oct. 17 as they will participate in the annual Hartwick Relay in Oneonta, N.Y.
