Women's Swimming Competes Against NEAC Opponents

WASHINGTON – Competing against two North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents in SUNY Cobleskill and the host Bison from Gallaudet University, the Wells College women's swimming team posted two losses on Saturday in Washington, D.C. The Express fall to 1-6 overall on the year.

Wells lost to SUNY Cobleskill by a 130-98 margin and also registered a 141-123 defeat at the hands of Gallaudet. The Express was led by freshman Courtney Cloutier (West Springfield, Mass.) and her three first place finishes on the afternoon – senior Quinn Griswold (Alpine, N.Y.) secured two top finishes of her own.

Cloutier produced a dominant victory in the 200 Yard Butterfly, finishing 15 seconds ahead of the second place finisher with a time of 2:33.78. She later recorded a career-low time of 1:09.30 in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing first out of six competitors. Her third top finish of the afternoon came in the 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:31.98) after streaking out of the gate with a time of 34.65 through the first 50 yards.

Griswold's two first place finishes came in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:11.75) and the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:32.59). She also added a second place individual finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle

Senior Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.) joined Griswold with two first place finishes on the afternoon, completing the 500 Yard Freestyle in 6:11.45 after completing the 1,000 Yard Freestyle in 12:51.17 earlier in the afternoon. Daniels also added a second place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle (30.27).

The Express opened with a second place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as the foursome of Griswold, Cloutier, senior Melanie Canales (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Emily Blake (Naples, N.Y.) posted a time of 2:17.87. Canales and Blake also added solid performances later in the meet, finishing second and third, respectively, in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with times of 3:15.43 and 3:16.80.

Wells will compete in its final home meet of the 2015-16 season on Saturday, Jan. 9 as the Express welcome the Bengals from Buffalo State College to Aurora for a 1 p.m. contest in the Wells College Aquatic Center.
