Men's, Women's Swimming To Compete At NEAC Championships

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Wells College men's and women's swimming programs will compete in the 2015-16 North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships this Friday, Feb. 12 through Sunday, Feb. 14 on the campus of Cazenovia College within the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex.

The action will begin with each day's event preliminary round sessions at 10:00 a.m. followed by each day's event championship round sessions starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the event will be $3.00 per session or $5.00 per day – programs will cost $3.00 while heat sheets will be made available for $1.00.

The Express will compete against the host Wildcats of Cazenovia College, the Bison of Gallaudet University, the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill and the Falcons of Cedar Crest College.

The women's swimming team at Wells recorded 10 brand-new entries to the All-Wells Top 10 list so far in 2015-16. Freshman Courtney Cloutier (West Springfield, Mass.) was a part of eight times, including the second-fastest 400 Yard Individual Medley time in program history (5:10.61) on Jan. 30, 2016.

Senior Quinn Griswold (Alpine, N.Y.), in her first season with the Express, contributed the fourth-fastest 200 Yard Backstroke time (2:29.60) and the seventh-lowest 100 Yard Backstroke time (1:09.37). Classmate Nina Daniels (Pittsford, N.Y.), winner of NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Jan. 19, 2016, boasts the most NEAC Championship experience heading into this weekend's competition, having competed in four-straight championships.

The men's team posted an impressive 19 additions to the All-Wells Top 10 lists, not including four new entries in the 100 Yard Individual Medley. As an individual, freshman Austin Heil (Medina, N.Y.) has posted four of the program's top-10 fastest times in four-separate freestyle events, including the fourth-fastest 100 Yard Freestyle time (54.11) in team history. Heil is a two-time winner of NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

The Wells women have won three conference championships from 2011-12 to 2013-14 while the men's squad has won twice at the league's title meet. No other NEAC school has won as many combined championships in swimming as Wells since the first-ever league championship meet in 2010.

Head Coach Trish George, the longest-tenured active coach at Wells College, is a two-time recipient of NEAC Coach of the Year honors. She also boasts the most conference titles by any Head Coach in Wells history and won her institution's first-ever NEAC title in 2010 with the men's swimming program.
