Women's Swimming Edged By Alfred State
The Wells College women's swimming team hosted Alfred State College at the Schwartz Center on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Alfred State came away with a 74-42 victory in the dual meet.
Wells started the meet with an exciting victory in the 200-yard medley relay with the quartet of Shannon Simmons, Gina Ross-Detro, Kaitlyn Schwend, and Courtney Cloutier edging the opposition team from Alfred State by 73-hundredths of a second for the victory. The winning time for the Express was 2:07.03.
Cloutier won two individual events in the meet. She touched first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:53.60, and swam unopposed in the 200-yard butterfly and won with a time of 2:36.56.
Ross-Detro took second place in three individual events – the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard individual medley. Simmons was second in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, and
Caroline Kelemen was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and Schwend was second in the 100-yard butterfly.
After a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, Wells will return to action at home Saturday, Dec. 3 against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents Gallaudet University and SUNY Cobleskill.
