Women's Swim Relays Hit Record Board On NEAC Opening Day

The Wells College women's swimming team stands in fourth place with 92 points after the first of three days of competition at the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Cazenovia College.

The 400-yard medley relay team for Wells turned in the second-fastest time in program history, with a time of 4:31.35 in the event finals. The quartet of Shannon Simmons, Gina Ross-Detro, Kaitlyn Schwend, and Courtney Cloutier placed fourth in the finals. The time was just over one second behind the school-record time set in the 2016 championship meet.

The same quartet also hit the record board in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They took fourth in the event finals with a time of 1:50.97. That was the seventh-fastest 200 free relay time in program history.

Courtney Cloutier and Kaitlyn Schwend advanced to the finals of the 200-yard individual medley. Cloutier took third with a time of 2:28.68 and Schwend was fifth with a time of 2:31.36.

Shannon Simmons placed fourth in the championship final of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.80 seconds. Ana Bozeat was 10th and Chasity Daniels placed 12th. Those finishes added team points to the Wells total.

Emily Cooper was 11th and Asa Cade took 12th in the 500-yard freestyle.

Action resumes Saturday morning with preliminary races beginning at 10 a.m. at Cazenovia.
