Senior Day Win For Women's Swimming

The Wells College women's swimming team hosted its final home meet of the 2018-19 season and earned a 69-20 dual-meet victory over Penn State Altoona on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Schwartz Athletic Center aquatics facility.

Wells College seniors Emily Cooper and Courtney Cloutier were honored prior to the meet for their contributions and leadership over the last four years. Cooper is a business major with a sports management minor from Clayton, N.Y. Cloutier is a creative writing major with a minor in book arts and a native of West Springfield, Mass.

Wells had the only two relays entered in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. The group of Shannon Simmons, Callia Ortega, Courtney Cloutier, and Caitlin Lawrence won the 200 MR in 2:15.73. Simmons, Cooper, Jessica Boeheim, and Amy Storti won the 200 FR in 2:18.50.

Emily Cooper won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 14:57.06 and was third in the 500 free in 7:16.23. Amy Storti was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:46.15 and second in the 500 free in 7:14.20.

Caitlin Lawrence was first in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.00 seconds, narrowly finishing ahead of Callia Ortega who was second in 29.28 seconds. The two reversed places in the 100 free as Ortega won in 1:03.09, with Lawrence in second in 1:06.63.

Cloutier was first in the 400-yard individual medley in 5:19.77 and won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:10.94.

Shannon Simmons took first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:16.16

Bella George was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:36.03.

Wells will continue its season Saturday, Jan. 19 at Mount Saint Mary for a 1 p.m. meet.
