Women’s Swimming Team Takes Back-to-Back Conference Honors

Just one week after senior caption Shannon Simmons garnered Wells College's first women's swimming North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for this season, Saoirse Murphy-Collins made it two in a row for the Express.

Saoirse Murphy-Collins was named the top NEAC women's swimmer after competing in four events last weekend at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational in a tri-meet between the host Redhawks and Utica College in Rochester.

The Wells College freshman took a pair of first-place victories and one runner-up in individual freestyle competition, and then joined three of her Wells College teammates in another runner-up finish in relay competition.

Murphy-Collins won the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:14.10 time and the 500-yard freestyle with a 6:04.68 time. Her runner-up finish came in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.15. Murphy-Collins had the fastest leg time in the 200-yard medley relay for Wells at 28.77 as the team's anchor in securing second place with Nicole D'Aurizio, Hailey Onofre and Simmons.
