Women’s Swimming Team Goes to the Wire at Cedar Crest

The Wells College women's swimming team dropped its meet by the slimmest of margins to Cedar Crest College on Sunday, Jan. 12. The Falcons beat Wells by five points in a 119-114 showdown.

The Express did particularly well in relay and 50-yard events. Wells won both relays and took three of four of the events at 50 yards.

Saoirse Murphy-Collins took part in five total wins with three in individual events and another pair in relays to lead the Express.

Individually, Murphy-Collins won the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:17.14 time, the 50-yard freestyle with a 28.78 time and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:12.38.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Murphy-Collins teamed with Shannon Simmons, Hailey Onofre and Nicole D'Aurizio for a winning time of 2:19.32.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Murphy-Collins again teamed with Simmons and Onofre, but the other leg was Alexis Huff for a winning time of 2:05.21.

Simmons also had an individual win in the 50-yard backstroke with a 36.03 time to go with her two relay wins. Onofre claimed the 50-yard breaststroke with a 39.65 time to go with her two relay wins to join Simmons as three-time winners on the day.

Next up is another road meet on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Penn State-Altoona slated for a 1 p.m. start. The event will be live-streamed.
