Volleyball Set Down By Penn State Harrisburg

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg Sunday afternoon to conclude the 2012 Wells College Crossover and the first weekend of North Eastern Athletic Conference Pool Play. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-12 overall and to 0-3 within NEAC play. The Nittany Lions improve to 4-10 overall and to 1-2 within the NEAC. Freshman Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.) posted a team-best .263 hitting percentage against the Nittany Lions, but the Express lost in three sets by scores of 25-20, 15-25, 7-25 and 15-25. Freshman Gina Cairns (Delhi, N.Y.) ranked second on the team with five kills to her credit. Defensively, Katie Curtin (Cassville, N.Y.) led the team with 12 digs while setter Taryn Heath (Homer, N.Y.) chipped in with 15 assists.

Leilani Yasutake (Germantown, N.Y.) set a program record with four solo blocks, eclipsing the previous season-high of two, set by two different players. With the 25-20 victory in the first set this afternoon, the Express collected their first home set win.

For the Nittany Lions, Olivia Umoren led the way with 11 kills and a team-best .310 hitting percentage (min. 20 total attacks). Elizabeth Findley set up 19 of the team's 37 kills while Erin Goodyear reached 20 digs. Chidere Igwe chipped in five of the team's nine total blocks en route to the victory.
