Morrisville State, SUNY Cobleskill Defeat Women’s Volleyball

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's volleyball team dropped contests against Morrisville State College and SUNY Cobleskill to conclude week two of North Eastern Athletic Conference Pool Play on Sunday. With the losses, the Express fall to 2-19 overall and 1-7 overall in conference play.

Against the Mustangs of Morrisville State College, the Express lost in four sets (22-25, 12-25, 25-23 and 16-25). Freshman Katie Curtin (Cassville, N.Y.) led the team with 11 kills to her credit while also chipping in two service aces. Freshman Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.) recorded a team-high three service aces. Primary setter Taryn Heath (Homer, N.Y.) set up 14 Express kills while libero Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.) recorded 14 digs on the evening. Butts and Heath also combined for two block assists apiece.

Despite a second set victory, the Express were dropped by the Flying Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill in four sets (15-25, 29-27, 11-25, 13-25). In the contest, Butts converted 10 kills on 17 total attacks without an error, a career high for the freshman – she also hammered home three service aces in the match. Heath put up 22 assists while also contributing 12 digs defensively. Loeven once again led all Express players with 20 digs.
