Wells Defeats York (Pa.), Falls To D’Youville

MARCY, N.Y. – The Wells College women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over York (N.Y.) College before falling to the Spartans of D'Youville College by a 3-1 margin Saturday afternoon at the SUNYIT Wildcat Classic. Following the afternoon's slate of games, Wells' overall record is 3-11 as they match their win total from 2012, the first modern-era season of volleyball in Aurora.

Against the Cardinals, Wells was able to collect the three set victory via set scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-16. Freshman Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) racked up a team-leading 12 kills while freshman Stephanie Parker () posted seven kills alongside only one error for a team-leading .375 hitting percentage. Setter Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) racked up 24 assists while tallying four service aces. Defensively, libero Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.)led the way with nine digs for the Express.

The Cardinals committed 16 receiving errors en route to the sweep by Wells. Carlean McCrimmon and Stayce Kay Muirhead each tallied five kills for the Cardinals while Evelyn Florentino assist eight of her team's 15 kills. Defensively, the Cardinals recorded more kills than the Express (40-to-34) while Allison Li and Florentino each posted eight for York.

Versus the Spartans, Wells posted a 3-1 loss via set scores of 17-25, 25-22, 21-25 and 21-25. The Express, who posted a 3-0 loss to D'Youville earlier in the season, were led by Kadjeski's 13 total kills off of 55 total attack attempts, a program record. She also recorded a double-double with 10 digs alongside her 13 kills. Her seven service aces set a career-high mark and stands as the second-most ever by an individual in a game for the Express. Heath assisted 23 of her team's 35 kills while four different players racked up double-digit dig totals for the Express, led by Nadine Pershyn's (Buffalo, N.Y.) 16 digs.

Three different players posted 10 or more kills for D'Youville, including Kaylee Stewart, Molly Minkiewicz and Emily Milbrand. Alyssa Dueringer assisted 32-of-47 team kills while Kayla Deth, Dueringer and Lara Svensson each chipped in with 15 digs.

Wells returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 5 as they face-off in the second North Eastern Athletic Conference weekend against SUNY Institute of Technology and host Morrisville State College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
