Women's Volleyball Completes 4-0 Weekend In NEAC Play

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Dropping only one set the entire weekend of North Eastern Athletic Conference play, the Wells College women's volleyball team posted a 4-0 record this past weekend after defeating the SUNY Institute of Technology by a 3-1 score before blanking the hosts from Cazenovia College 3-0 on Sunday. Wells' overall record stands at 14-6 while boasting a league record of 7-1 exiting play this weekend.

Despite dropping the first set by a 25-17 margin to SUNYIT, Wells rallied to dispatch the Wildcats by set scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-18. In the final match of the afternoon, Wells edged Cazenovia in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-20. The opening set loss to SUNYIT was Wells' first on the weekend after posting back-to-back 3-0 wins against Morrisville State and SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday.

In the opener against SUNYIT, freshman Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) tied the team record for digs in a four-set match with 20 to her credit. Classmate Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) also went on to set a career-high mark with 35 assists in the match. As a team, Wells' six total blocks against SUNYIT tied the all-time program mark, set three times prior.

Offensively, junior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) hammered home 12 kills on 31 total attacks to register a .290 hitting percentage. Freshman Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) picked up a double-double, reaching double-digits in kills (10) and digs (15). Senior Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapa'a, Hawaii) narrowly missed double-digit kill and dig totals, posting nine of each while committing only two attacking errors on 40 swings.

Versus Cazenovia, Wells hit at a .324 clip as a team, their highest against any conference opponent in team history. Sophomore Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) hammered home a team-best nine kills while Nettles posted seven of her own. Senior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) assisted 24 of her team's 35 kills while Artaho-Aki secured seven digs defensively to lead the way. Artaho-Aki also posted four service aces, setting a career-high mark in that statistic.

Wells returns to action Friday, Oct. 10 as they participate in the Ithaca College Invitational. The Express will face-off against the host Bombers at 3:30 p.m. before concluding the day with a 5:30 p.m. match versus Utica.
