Women's Volleyball Rolls Past La Roche, Pitt.-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Wells College women's volleyball team posted back-to-back victories on Saturday, defeating La Roche by a 3-0 margin before battling the host Panthers of Pitt.-Bradford to a 3-2 win to conclude the tri-match. With the two non-conference wins, the Express conclude the regular season with a 23-10 overall record. 

The Express overwhelmed the Redhawks in straight sets (25-14, 25-16 and 26-18) and later battled Pitt.-Bradford to a 3-2 victory via scores of 25-12, 25-14, 23-25, 19-25 and 15-13. Despite opening up a 2-0 lead against the Panthers, the hosts rallied to force a decisive fifth set that the Express were able to win. 

Wells was led by nine kills from junior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and freshman Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) each chipped in eight kills apiece. Freshman Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 32 of her team's 39 kills while the team as a whole posted 14 service aces. Defensively, freshman Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) racked up 16 digs for the Express. 

Against Pitt.-Bradford, Wells saw 14 kills from both Leite-Ah Yo and senior Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapa'a, Hawaii). Schwab set up 38 of her team's 49 kills while Artaho-Aki chipped in a team-best 18 digs defensively. Leite-Ah Yo and sophomore Nadine Pershyn (Buffalo, N.Y.) each posted 13 digs to help the collective defensive effort. 

The Express have qualified for the upcoming 2014 North Eastern Athletic Conference postseason. More information about the playoffs will be posted in the coming week.
