Leite Ah-Yo Sets Single Match Digs Record vs. Alfred

ITHACA, N.Y. – Despite a 3-0 loss to Ithaca College in the first match of the day, the Wells College women's volleyball team rebounded in a big way to conclude the afternoon with a straight-set win against Alfred. Following the doubleheader, Wells enters conference play next weekend with a 3-6 overall record.

Ithaca set back the Express via set scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19 before Wells came back to sweep Alfred by recording three-straight 25-19 set victories. The Bombers avenged last season's 3-2 loss at the hands of the Express while Alfred was set back by Wells for the second-consecutive season in three sets.

In the victory over Alfred, Wells was led by sophomore Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) and her 26 digs. She broke her own team record of 24 digs, set against Ithaca on Oct. 22, 2014. Sophomore Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) led the team with 11 kills on offense while junior Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) was second with 10 kills and only three errors in 21 total attacks. Freshman Renee Bartosz (Hamburg, N.Y.) added a team-best four service aces in only two sets of action.

Wells rebounded from a sluggish start in the first set, falling behind 3-0 after three-straight attacking errors by the Express placed the team in an early hole. Rallying to take a 21-19 lead late, the Express posted four-straight points to easily capture the first set win down the stretch. Wells posted four of the last five points in the second set as well to take the win and ultimately set down Alfred with five-straight points to capture the third set victory as well.

Against Ithaca, Wells was led by Leite-Ah Yo's 10 kills while sophomore Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 24 of her teams 32 kills. Defensively, Leite-Ah Yo joined Brazier and junior Nadine Pershyn (Buffalo, N.Y.) all tied with seven digs apiece. Collectively, Wells posted 16 block assists to tie the team record that was set last evening against Elmira.

Wells opens North Eastern Athletic Conference play this Friday, Sept. 18 as they face-off against Penn St.-Berks in an 8 p.m. contest on the campus of Lancaster Bible College. The Express will play Penn College and the host Chargers at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, on Saturday, Sept. 19.
